Double Sticky Tape Company manufactures Vinyl Nitrile Foam Tape from PVC/NBR closed-cell foam for sealing, cushioning, vibration damping, NVH control, and fabricated gasket work. It is a practical material for assemblies that need controlled compression, clean recovery, dependable adhesive backing, and accurate converting into slit rolls, die-cut pads, or gasket shapes. In equipment, vehicles, enclosures, and machinery, the tape helps reduce air gaps, contact noise, panel rattle, and light moisture entry.

Product Overview

Vinyl Nitrile Foam Tape is made for sealing and protection jobs where a common sponge tape may not hold up well enough. In many industrial assemblies, the tape has to compress repeatedly, resist oil contact, stay in position, and still recover after pressure is released. The PVC/NBR blend gives the foam a useful balance: PVC adds flexibility and processing stability, while nitrile rubber improves resistance to oil, grease, and many workshop fluids.

The closed-cell structure is one of the reasons this material works well as a foam gasket strip, anti-rattle pad, cushioning layer, or adhesive-backed sealing part. It helps limit air leakage, dust entry, light moisture transfer, vibration noise, and surface impact. In typical internal compression checks, medium-density PVC/NBR foam at 90 – 140 kg/m3 can recover more than 85% of its original thickness after 24 hours at 25% compression, depending on thickness and formulation. That recovery is important when the tape is used between panels, covers, housings, or moving contact surfaces.

Adhesive choice should match the final surface, not just the foam. Acrylic adhesive is often selected for metal, painted panels, and outdoor exposure because it offers better aging resistance. Rubber-based adhesive gives faster initial tack for quick assembly. High-tack adhesive can help on textured plastics, powder-coated panels, and slightly uneven surfaces. Release liner type, adhesive thickness, roll length, and slit width can also be adjusted for hand application, jig-assisted placement, or continuous production.

Benefits

  • Controlled sealing pressure:The foam compresses to fill uneven gaps while helping the seal stay active under long-term load.
  • Reliable compression recovery:Typical recovery can reach >=85% after 24 hours, helping gasket areas recover after clamping pressure is released.
  • Cushioning and impact protection:The foam layer reduces hard contact between metal, plastic, glass, or coated surfaces.
  • NVH and sound dampening support:It helps reduce rattle, vibration transfer, and contact noise in housings, vehicles, equipment, and electronics.
  • Outdoor and chemical resistance options:Selected grades can support UV, ozone, heat aging, oil, grease, and many industrial fluid contact conditions.
  • Easy to convert for production:The material can be slit into narrow rolls, laminated with adhesive, kiss-cut on liner, or die-cut into pads and gasket profiles.

What Makes PVC/NBR Closed-Cell Foam Suitable for Industrial Tape Applications?

PVC/NBR closed-cell foam is useful when a sealing material must do more than fill a gap. It needs to compress, cushion, recover, and resist harsh contact conditions over time. Softer, lower-density grades are easier to compress on uneven surfaces. Medium and higher-density grades provide stronger sealing force, better impact absorption, and improved resistance to long-term compression set. For metal housings, painted panels, plastic covers, machinery guards, and electronic enclosures, this closed-cell foam tape helps create cleaner sealing lines while reducing vibration noise and surface wear.

How Can Vinyl Nitrile Foam Tape Be Fabricated for Gaskets, Pads, and Slit Rolls?

Vinyl Nitrile Foam Tape can be supplied as master rolls, narrow slit rolls, adhesive-backed sheets, die-cut pads, kiss-cut parts, or custom gasket profiles. For repeat assembly, kiss-cut parts on release liner can make placement faster and more consistent. For gasket shapes, inner holes, corner radii, bolt clearances, and edge profiles can be cut according to drawings. Before production use, the final surface should be checked with a 24-hour adhesion test, followed by a 72-hour compression recovery check under the actual clamping pressure.

FAQ

What is Vinyl Nitrile Foam Tape used for?

It is used for industrial sealing, cushioning, vibration damping, NVH reduction, impact absorption, and custom gasket fabrication.

Is PVC/NBR foam tape suitable for outdoor use?

Yes. Selected grades with acrylic adhesive can support outdoor exposure, UV aging, ozone resistance, and weather sealing requirements.

Can the tape be die-cut into custom gasket shapes?

Yes. It can be converted into die-cut pads, adhesive-backed gaskets, strips, sheets, and kiss-cut parts on liner.

Which adhesive should be selected?

Acrylic adhesive is preferred for durability and outdoor use, rubber adhesive gives faster initial tack, and high-tack adhesive helps on textured or lower-energy surfaces.
